Meadow Brook Hall was constructed by Matilda Dodge Wilson, an heiress to the fame of the Dodge automobile company, and her husband, lumber baron Alfred Wilson. She was also the first woman in the United States to own a Tudor style mansion. She spent several years designing and building the mansion, and it is now a popular Rochester Hills destination for locals and tourists alike.
The home was constructed between 1926 and 1929 and is now known as the “preeminent country estate of America’s automotive aristocracy.” The mansion is known for its Tudor Revival architecture, elaborate collections of fine arts, and 110 elegant rooms. The Meadowbrook Hall reopens Saturday for public tours. The National Historic Landmark is located on Oakland University’s campus and will be open for visitors on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Last admission is at 3 p.m. Afterwards, the Hall will serve a light lunch and a tour of the interior of the building.
