Dinosaur Hill Nature Preserve located at 333 N Hill Cir, Rochester Hills, MI 48307 is one of the many attractions that make up the Detroit Metro area. It can be found along Detroit’s northern edge, between Rochester and Inkster. The preserve protects a strip of land that was once owned by Henry Ford. You will see remnants of his farm on site, some of which are open to the public. Dinosaur Hill is home to many different species of flora and fauna. Nature Preserve Dinosaur Hill Nature Preserve offers an abundance of hiking trails. The preserve is situated in a hilly area, so the paths vary in elevation. In total, there are five hiking trails at the park. They range from one-quarter mile to two miles long, with some being easier than others. One of the most popular trails is the paved route around the property, which takes visitors through forests and across fields. At the end of this trail is a parking lot where you can catch your breath or grab lunch before heading back into nature for more exploration. One of the most popular attractions at the preserve is biking. There are more than 10 miles of biking trails that wind through the preserve, connecting all the way to Rochester Hills. Birding trails are a big draw at Dinosaur Hill. The trails feature birds found in Michigan, as well as those native to other parts of the country. The trails are located on the edges of the preserve and offer some really nice views of the surrounding forest. You can also see a lot of different animals that call this area home. These include white-tailed deer, foxes, coyotes, wild turkeys, hawks, and many species of birds. There is no charge for entry into this preserve. It’s open from dawn until dusk every day except Christmas Day and Thanksgiving Day. Nature Preserve Dinosaur Hill is home to many different types of wildflowers in the spring. One of them is the white fringed phacelia. This flower is a native plant that will bloom in February and March. Another one you may find is the blue violet, which has beautiful blue flowers that are scattered throughout the preserve. These flowers often appear as small patches at different times of year, so it’s best to carry a guide to look for them as they will be hard to spot if you’re just walking through! If you’re visiting the preserve during the winter months, there are many activities that will keep your kids entertained. One is an outdoor winter adventure park which includes a sledding hill and a maze. You can also enjoy snow tubing, ice skating, and cross-country skiing. The preserve is adjacent to Dinosaur Hill Golf Course so if you feel like hitting the links, you can do so! The golf course was designed by Donald Ross in 1934 and it’s still intact today.
